What is the CRS score in Express Entry? Why does it matter?

  • Candidates that secure 67 points on the eligibility calculation are entered into the Express Entry pool. Here, another score comes into play. Allotted on a 1,200-point Comprehensive Ranking System, this is the CRS score of that Express Entry profile.
  • A good CRS score matters as IRCC issues invitations to apply to the highest-ranked. The minimum CRS cut-off varies from draw to draw. The higher your CRS, the better are your chances of being invited to apply.
  • A Canadian permanent residence application under Express Entry can only be submitted after an official invitation is received from IRCC.

Why do Express Entry PNP-only draws have high CRS scores?

  • PNP-only draws have a CRS requirement in the higher range. A PNP nomination gets you CRS 600 points. If we exclude the points allotted based on nomination, the base score requirement goes down. For example, the cut-off in EE Draw #248 is CRS 691. If the 600 of a PNP nomination are removed, it leaves a human capital factors score requirement of only 91.
