More than one lakh UK student visas granted to Indians in 2023
- A total of 142,848 sponsored study visas were granted to Indians, an increase of 49,883 (+54%) compared to the year ending June 2022, statistics from the UK Home Office showed. It also showed that grants to Indians is now around seven times higher than the year ending June 2019.
- UK issued close to 500,000 sponsored UK study visas in June 2023, equivalent to a rise of 23% on the previous year, with Indians accounting for almost a third.
- According to the stats released, almost 154,000 of all sponsored study related visas were granted to students’ dependents.
- The measurements likewise revealed that a total of 98,394 Alumni course expansions were granted in the year to June, with Indians representing more than two-fifths (42 percent). Past examinations showed that 20% of understudies whose leave terminated in 2022 changed to the Alumni course following their examinations.
- Earlier this year, UK had announced that it will not allow masters students to bring dependents with them from next year. However, it will still allow postgraduate research course students to bring dependents after 2024.
- Non-EEA students are behind the rise in study visas granted, rising by 24% in the past year. EU students “remained stable” according to the Home Office analysis, falling slightly by 1%.
- A total of 107,670 student visa was granted to Chinese students, showing a 6 per cent drop from 2022, the statics showed. Together, Chinese and Indian nationals accounted for half of all sponsored study visas.
- Nigeria, Pakistan and the US made up the top five nationalities granted sponsored study visas. Among the sponsored visa grants to students from the Schengen region, Germany accounted for 18 percent of the grant followed by France and Spain.
