  • Ontario has effective financial planning $25 million additional throughout the following three years, on top of the $15 million north of three years that was reported in Spending plan 2022.
  • The investment was made to double the province’s skilled immigrant intake to address its labor shortages and promote its economic growth.

Reason behind the doubling of the skilled immigrant intake

  • Ontario is Canada’s most popular landing destination, and the province welcomes one third of all newcomers to the country each year.
  •  The territory and central government declared the multiplying of the quantity of monetary workers the region will choose to arrive at a notable high of 18,000 by 2025.
  • Ontario needs many more skilled newcomers to help build the highways, schools, hospitals, transit, and homes to cater to the growing population.

Ontario’s 2023 budget, Building a Strong Ontario

  • On top of the $25 million investment in the Ontario PNP, the government pledges to invest the budget into skills training, transform the apprenticeship and skilled trades system and help newcomers put their skills to use.
  • The province will be investing $75 million specifically into the Skills Development Fund over the next three years. $224 million in 2023 and 2024 will also be invested in a new capital stream of the fund. Also, the government is taking action against the housing crisis and is getting 1.5 million homes built by 2031.
